Breast Asymmetry Correction

Breast Asymmetry Correction

Breast asymmetry refers to differences in shape or size of one breast compared to the opposite breast and is not an uncommon occurrence in women.  An extreme example of this is found in Poland’s syndrome, a condition where one breast does not develop at all.  Various techniques can be used to achieve better symmetry including augmentation, reduction, mastopexy, or tissue expansion/tissue transfer.

  • Usually treated with one operation but may need staged procedures (multiple surgeries).
  • Usually outpatient procedure.
  • Can be performed on patients of any age.
  • Recovery depends on type of procedures performed (see the other breast procedure pages on our web site).

Before and After Picture Gallery

Patient 1: This patient was unhappy with the differing size and shape of her breasts, and she had difficulty fitting into bras comfortably. She underwent a slight breast reduction of the left breast and a lift (mastopexy) of the right breast to achieve better symmetry.
